Respiratory impaiment by ATS crieria
- No impairment is FEV1 % predicted ≥80% and FVC % predicted ≥80% and FEV1 to FVC ratio ≥75%
- Mild impairment is FEV1 % predicted 60 to 79% or FVC % predicted 60 to 79% or FEV1 to FVC ratio 60 to 74%
- Moderate impairment is FEV1 % predicted 41 to 59% or FVC % predicted 51 to 59% or FEV1 to FVC ratio 41 to 59%
- Severe impairment is FEV1 % predicted ≤40% and FVC % predicted ≤50% or FEV1 to FVC ratio ≤40%
Medication Severity Scale
- 1 point for 1 medication prn
- 2 points for >1 medication prn
- 3 points for 1 non-steroid medication every day
- 4 points for 1 non-steroid medication every day plus a prn medication
- 5 points for 2 to 3 non-steroid medications every day
- 6 points for inhaled steroid every day and up to 2 other non-steroid medications
- 7 points for 4 to 5 medications every day
- 8 points for systemic steroids prn or for short courses
- 9 points for systemic steroid every other day
- 10 points for systemic steroid every day
