  CIP Score Interpretation

0 to 2 points: Low risk
3 points: Moderate risk
4 to 8 points: High risk

Equations used

CIPScore = AgeFactor + RespiratoryRateFactor + SystolicBloodPressureFactor + PulseFactor + PulseOxFactor + GCSFactor

Calculation Details and Variables
  • AgeFactor is assigned values by this ordered logic:
    • If Age ≥45 yr AgeFactor = 1
    • Else AgeFactor = 0.
  • RespiratoryRateFactor is assigned values by this ordered logic:
    • If Respiratory Rate ≥36 breaths/min RespiratoryRateFactor = 2
    • Else if Respiratory Rate ≥24 breaths/min RespiratoryRateFactor = 1
    • Else if Respiratory Rate ≥12 breaths/min RespiratoryRateFactor = 0
    • Else RespiratoryRateFactor = 1.
  • SystolicBloodPressureFactor is assigned values by this ordered logic:
    • If Systolic Blood Pressure >90 mmHg SystolicBloodPressureFactor = 0
    • Else SystolicBloodPressureFactor = 1.
  • PulseFactor is assigned values by this ordered logic:
    • If Pulse ≥120 beats/min PulseFactor = 1
    • Else PulseFactor = 0.
  • PulseOxFactor is assigned values by this ordered logic:
    • If Pulse Ox ≤87 % PulseOxFactor = 1
    • Else PulseOxFactor = 0.
  • GCSFactor is assigned values by this ordered logic:
    • If Glasgow Coma Scale <8 score GCSFactor = 2
    • Else if Glasgow Coma Scale ≤14 score GCSFactor = 1
    • Else GCSFactor = 0.
