Notes
  • This calculator represents findings from the literature referenced below. It is important to understand that these findings may not be representative of the experience in your local healthcare system.
  • In the Valente study[1], the CHA(2)DS(2)-VASc score is modified by reversing the point values for the Sex coefficient: females are assigned 0 points and males are assigned 1 point.
  • CHF: congestive heart failure; HTN: systemic hypertension; CVA: stroke; VascularDx: vascular disease.

Equations used

Score = AgeFactor + Gender + CHF + HTN + Diabetes + CVA + VascularDx

Calculation Details and Variables
  • Equation parameters such as CHF, have two or more discrete values that may be used in the calculation. The numbers in the parentheses, e.g. (0), represent the values that will be used.
  • AgeFactor is assigned values by this ordered logic:
    • If Age ≥75 yr, AgeFactor = 2
    • Else if Age ≥65 yr, AgeFactor = 1
    • Else AgeFactor = 0.
