EBMcalc Calculator Creation and Maintenance Policy

This policy has been compiled to better serve those who are concerned with how EBMcalc calculators are created and maintained.

Our calculators are education medical resources. THEY ARE NOT MEDICAL DEVICES.
EBMcalc is never meant to be physically connected to patients in any situation.
EBMcalc is NOT software as a medical device for the following reasons:
- All calculators have complete descriptions of calculation methods so that a user may independently confirm calculated results.
- Many calculations can quite literally be confirmed manually: e.g. the Apgar score can be summed on 10 fingers.
- Many calculations require simple mathematical operations that can be done by pencil and paper, or by using basic handheld calculators such as those found on most user's cell phones.
- If a calculation requires data tables, that data is always displayed prominently for manual calculation.
- All EBMcalc calculator pages contain the following important stipulation: "All information contained in and produced by the EBMcalc system is provided for educational purposes only. This information should not be used for the diagnosis or treatment of any health problem or disease. THIS INFORMATION IS NOT INTENDED TO REPLACE CLINICAL JUDGMENT OR GUIDE INDIVIDUAL PATIENT CARE IN ANY MANNER."
